The key idea
n8n is a workflow automation platform with AI capabilities. Hosting and operational choices affect access, maintenance and how failures are handled.

Our method
Map the workflow, define credentials and data boundaries, and add validation before consequential actions. Test retries, duplicate inputs and error branches. Document how to pause the process and who can restore normal operation.
How to assess progress
Review deployment responsibilities, licensing and current integrations before selecting an approach. Measure reliability and maintenance effort; a visual workflow still requires operational ownership.
Decision
Decide who will operate the workflow after the first demonstration, including credentials, execution history and failed runs. Choose an implementation boundary your team can maintain. A useful initial marketing workflow might validate an incoming brief, produce an internal draft and wait for review before any final handoff.
Exercise
Build the proposed flow with explicit validation, generation, review and completion stages in a test environment. Interrupt it after a draft is produced, then resume using the same input identifier. Test an expired credential, an invalid model response and a reviewer requesting changes. Inspect whether the workflow preserves the approved version and the correct stage through each failure.
Deliverable
Deliver a state map, input schema, sample accepted output and operational runbook. Document credential ownership, error routing, execution limits and the location of review decisions. Include a manual fallback showing how the team completes the task when an integration is unavailable, and how resumed automation avoids repeating that completed work.
Pitfall
A visually tidy flow can conceal unclear state and ownership. Make every consequential transition inspectable. If a retry can bypass review or replace an approved draft, resolve that behaviour before adding more branches or scheduling recurring execution.
